The Al-Rajhi Consortium completed the civil and infrastructure work on the track and handed over the major portion on Sunday. The installation of electrical grid columns and connection of the track to the power grid has commenced by the Al-Shoula Consortium. The Haramain Train Project's railway systems and rolling stock contract were implemented by the Al-Shoula Consortium, made up of two Saudi and twelve Spanish firms, while the Al-Rajhi Consortium carried out the civil work.
The Makkah-Jeddah-Madinah train route was temporarily halted on September 29 due to a huge fire at the station. Restoration of the rail services will be easier since the fire did not affect the rail tracks or power systems.
Earlier this month, Dr. Nabil Al-Amoudi, the Minister of Transport, stated that all restoration work will be finished within 30 days and rail traffic would resume as usual.
Residents and visitors of Jeddah will be served by the train service when it resumes, using the new King Abdulaziz International Airport station. In the aftermath of the fire, Al-Shoula Consortium began building a detour to restart train trips between Makkah and Madinah.
Several committees have been established by the government to investigate the reasons behind the huge fire that consumed the Sulaimaniyah station. Emir of Makkah Khaled Al-Faisal stated that the panels' findings will be presented to King Salman, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, following his inspection of the station after the tragedy.
