Public transport projects ‘on schedule’ in Makkah
This project signifies a significant and qualitative advancement for the transportation system of Makkah, as it would positively impact the quality of life by making it easier for both the city's inhabitants and pilgrims to move around.

The Makkah Region Development Authority (MRDA) reports that the public transport projects are being implemented successfully in partnership with the Royal Commission for Makkah City and Holy Sites.

According to the statement, the project's first phase is presently being executed through various contracts, one of which is with Japanese ICT company NEC Corp. Implementing this specific contract has resulted in introducing a brilliant transportation system to the buses and transport companies that specifically serve the needs of pilgrims.

Makkah's Governor, Prince Khalid bin Faisal, is backing the project, which is being overseen by his deputy, Prince Badr bin Sultan, to provide easy transportation for pilgrims.

Another contractor is carrying out infrastructure works, which include main stations, stops, special lanes, pedestrian bridges, traffic lights control systems, and pedestrian lights among other things.

The project is a major milestone for Makkah's transportation system as it enhances the quality of life by simplifying the movement of city dwellers and pilgrims.

Their smart transport systems are the latest, enabling their control center to locate and remotely manage them through GPS. Camera surveillance, accident protection, self-contained fire extinguishing, and emergency alarm systems have been installed to ensure the highest levels of safety and security.

The buses are equipped with Wi-Fi networks, trip guidance screens, smart multilingual payment systems, automatic passengers counting systems, instant trip information systems and bus prioritization systems that are connected to the traffic lights system.
