A new hackathon will be launched to promote innovation in the agriculture sector and support Saudi Arabia's efforts to develop a new generation of agriculture entrepreneurs.

The launch of the Qassim International Hackathon for Agricultural Technology will take place on Thursday. The Badir Program for Technology Incubators and Accelerators, represented by King Abdul Aziz City for Science and Technology (KACST), has organized it in partnership with the Mojtamae Foundation of Faisal bin Mishaal bin Saud bin Abdul Aziz.

The inaugural hackathon aims to cultivate a new breed of innovative entrepreneurs and enhance efficiency in Saudi Arabia's agriculture sector, aligning with Saudi Vision 2030.

The goal of employing data and artificial techniques is to address pest control sector challenges and discover technical solutions to eradicate pests.

The initial release will prioritize the significance of AI in enhancing production efficiency. The methods will enhance crops, profits, water management, and ecological problem-solving.

The presentation will offer technical solutions to enhance growth, sales, market discovery, and reduce natural resource waste.

A hackathon with over 150 participants from Saudi Arabia, the Gulf, and the Middle East will present their ideas to a jury after building them. Each of the hackathon's three tracks will have winning projects selected.

Financial rewards will be given to the three winners. The first prize winner will get SR50,000 ($13,300), while the second and third-place winners will receive SR30,000 and SR10,000, respectively. 

The three winners will receive a range of consulting services and intensive programs to support them in transforming their ideas into projects and innovations. Training, follow-up, counseling, and workshops are among the services provided.

The hackathon will see the participation of agricultural technology specialists, designers, prominent experts, entrepreneurs, and those interested in the agricultural sector from both the Kingdom and abroad.

One of the significant sectors backing Saudi Vision 2030 is agriculture. The Kingdom benefits from 25% of its food and 450,000 jobs from it. The industry contributes SR53 billion to the country's GDP, accounting for 4% of the non-oil GDP.
